In alignment with everything we think and do, our community focus is on creating a place to foster social belonging.

For over a decade in Vancouver, Canada, we offered nutritious meals and inviting spaces for marginalized individuals to gather around the table and engage in kitchen activities. Soulkitchen collaborated with More Than a Roof Housing Society, an organization dedicated to creating and managing inclusive communities with affordable housing for those impacted by low income, mental illness, or addiction.

Operating within the downtown core of Vancouver, we provided meals to residents living in More Than a Roof buildings. With the assistance of tenants, Hannes facilitated food preparation and service, while also mentoring outreach teams and volunteers in kitchen techniques and essential life skills. The outcome has been the cultivation of healthy communities, the forging of lasting friendships, and the empowerment of economically disadvantaged individuals to thrive in society.

We are so thankful for the partnership with IGA Marketplace on Robson, Earls Test Kitchen, D-Original Sausage Company and Terra Breads Olympic Village over those years.   We worked hard to share resources and ideas with local churches - in particular, First Baptist Church, Artisan and Westside.  We provided meals for churches who did not have adequate facilities or needed extra support to do so for community outreach programs.

Now we have left the Vancouver program in the hands of the team built up over these years. We feel totally confident they will continue the work with excellence.

PERHAPS OUR FAVOURITE PART OF THE WORK IS THE OPPORTUNITY WE HAVE TO HELP THOSE LIVING ON THE MARGINS TO FIND CONFIDENCE, MANAGE MONEY, FIND FRIENDS AND BECOME BETTER EQUIPPED TO LIVE WELL IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY. WE ENJOY HELPING PEOPLE OUT THROUGH AN AUTHENTIC FRIENDSHIP AND BY PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN NEW SKILLS AND TAKE ON MORE RESPONSIBILITIES.
